Jidai style swords for iaido

The jidai (period) style iaito is preferred by many schools and teachers of iaido. Typically, the shape of the tsuka (grip) narrows slightly around the centre and is wider at the end and thus thought to be a safer option for beginners. The elegant simplicity of the koshirae (fittngs) is also favoured by many. The jidai style iaito is inspired by similarly styled swords that were used in the era of warring states and were popular during the 14th to 16th centuries.
